Short-term forecast of supply and demand for major timber in

On June 28, the Forestry Agency held the first meeting in fiscal 2010 for lumber supply and demand and drew up "Prospects for Supply and Demand of Main Lumber (Third and Fourth Quarter of 2010)." Due to an increase in household income and to the effects of government assistance measures, housing starts for 2010, which is the main factor, is forecasted to increase compared to last year. Due to this increase, imported lumber products, plywood, and laminated lumber for structural use, which are easily influenced by housing starts, are especially forecasted to shift in supply and demand to a pace that exceeds last year. An increase in demand for domestic logs is also forecasted.
